Foodies: Shabu-shabu
By chance due to my friend's birthday dinner treat at Qian Zhou Hot Pot (same building where Philippine Restaurant is located here at Abu Dhabi, UAE), I experienced how great a chinese recipe called shabu shabu meal is.
So what "shabu shabu" means then?
According to my own personal research, the term is an onomatopœia, derived from the sound emitted when the ingredients are stirred in the cooking pot. The dish is related to sukiyaki in style: Both consist of thinly sliced meat and vegetables and served with dipping sauces. However, Shabu-shabu is considered to be more savory and less sweet than sukiyaki.
They are just serving hotpot, which involves choosing your own broth then cooking a selection of raw, pre-prepared vegetables, meat, seafoods and noodles by yourself at the table.
Just wait for some minutes until all the ingredients are ready to eat. In our case, we're just busy sharing stories and of course taking selfies while waiting.
Then, here's our prepared food.
It was indeed a good and great birthday dinner treat by a friend. Eating while laughing is the best medicine against stress.
