Ilocos Norte's Expedition: Batac City & Paoay

It's the third part of my Ilocos Norte's travel blog. Hope you have enjoyed reading the first 2 parts. Anyways, this were the two last towns we visited. We're really exhausted but still we can't resist to see the beauty that the towns has to offer.

Let's start with Batac City, Ilocos Norte.

It is another city of Ilocos Norte that known to be the "Home of Great Leaders" as its the hometown of significant figures in the history of the Philippines. Among them is former President Ferdinand Marcos where his museum is also located here. It is also the birthpalce of Gregorio Aglipay, the founder of Philippine Independent Church, better known as the Aglipayan  Church, and Gen. Artemio Ricarte, the Father of Philippine Army.

The Immaculate Conception Church is just located at the heart if the city. Walking distance from Marcos Museum and Maosoleum and the Batac Riverside Empanadaan.

The Marcos Museum and Mausoleum.

The Mausoleum is where the glass-entombed, preserved corpse of the Former President Ferdinand E. Marcos found. The Museum holds the memorabilia of the late President.

Unfortunately, we're late by minutes when we arrived at the said place. We didn't have the opportunity to see the corpse and the museum. However, no cameras or any source of photography are allowed inside.

The Batac Riverside Empanadaan is where the most famous product of Batac  and a hallmark of tourism promotion can be found. It is here where you can buy their heavenly tasted empanada (wait for my next blog about it).

Next is our final stop, Paoay, Ilocos Norte.

Maybe some of you might heard about Plato's Atlantis already. A legendary city ahead of its time that is swallowed by the ocean. Well, Ilocos Norte also had a local version of its own with the famous Lake in Paoay. According to the legend, a bountiful town was once stood on the exact location of the Paoay Lake but it is believed that it sank when the locals where blinded by material possessions that angered God.

The famous San Agustin Church or well-known as Paoay Church

It is one of the most iconic churches of Ilocos Norte and a notable religiuos structure in the Philippines.

It is also one of the 4 inscribed by UNESCO World Herritage Site under the collective group of Baroque Churches of the Philippines and declared as a National Cultural Treasure by the Philippine Government.

It is also the primary example of a Spanish colonial earthquake baroque architecture. An "earthquake-proof" church that truly tested by time.

Over all, my ILOCOS NORTE Expedition was truly worth it. There are still many things and places to discover here and can't wait to be back soon.

Did you like whole adventure? Feel free to leave some comments. Thanks guys!
